The Society is a friendly group of gardeners on the last Monday each month, including public holidays, commencing at 7.30pm, except for December.
MEETINGS ARE HELD AT THE WAVELL HEIGHTS COMMUNITY HALL, EDINBURGH CASTLE ROAD, WAVELL HEIGHTS.
Each night the club has a competitive show, attracting on an average approximately 200 entries. Number of exhibits vary depending on the season.
Sections for Competition include, FLORAL ART - POT PLANTS - ORCHIDS - DAHLIAS - ROSES - CUT FLOWERS - FRUIT AND VEGETABLES - COOKING.
Accredited Horticultural Judges are used for judging the exhibits and various trophies are presented at our AGM.
We have a guest speaker each month, usually on a horticultural based topic.
A light supper is served at the end of the meeting.
We also have a Raffle and lucky exhibitors prize each month.
FUNDRAISING; is substantially from our street stall at Mothers Day on the Saturday morning. Donated items sold include floral arrangements, potted plants, home made cooking and flowers.
BUS TRIPS and GARDEN VISITS DAY'S; are usually held twice a year. Garden visit days usually include morning tea and a BBQ lunch.
TRADE NIGHT; alow members to sell plants on commission(10%).One trade night in November.
CHRISTMAS PARTY; usually a two course buffet catered for by the committee. A nominal fee of $10 per head(subject to review) is charged to members.
EKKA; Our exhibit at the EKKA exhibit has been continuous since early 1950's and Northern Districts is the only Horticultural Society or Garden Club exhibiting in this Section.
NEWSLETTER; Four Newsletter editions are published each year for our members.
